Topsanah District

Topsanah District - District 34, Longhorn Council, BSA
  1. Day Camp Registration - Early Deadline

dinosaur-smallEarly registration ends Sunday, May 20th, at midnight.  Please get this information out to your Packs so families can take advantage of the cheaper rate and be guaranteed camp shirts and hats!

Rates will increase to $95 per scout on May 21st and the longer families wait to register the less likely it is we will be able to guarantee shirts and hats in time for the week of camp.

Thanks for everything you all are doing to make this year's camp a success!

  2. Upcoming Mandatory Staff/Walking Den Leader Training

We had a great turn out at the May 1st YPT class. If you missed it, no worries, district trainers will put on a few more sessions between now and camp time. Be sure to check Topsanah's training registration page for upcoming dates. Camp administration will have FOUR YPT sessions piggybacked with the mandatory camp staff/walking den leader training to be held at Furst Ranch:

    Saturday, 6/16

    Session 1: 10am-noon.

    Session 2: 1pm-3pm.

    Sunday, 6/17

    Session 3: 3pm-5pm.

    Monday, 6/18

    Session 4: 10am-noon.

The first hour of each session will cover camp protocol and procedure and the second hour will be YPT class. Anyone already certified in the 2012 YPT may leave at the end of camp training.

  3. Online Tour Permit Goes Live on May 10, 2012

For the past three months, the Tour and Activity Plan demo has been available for testing on MyBSA. National received much positive feedback, and based on your input, they are making enhancements before the application goes live. It will take some extra time to deliver this improved system; therefore, the Tour and Activity Plan will now be fully available for use beginning May 10, 2012. All details of the new plan will remain the same except for this change in date.

  4. 2012 Texas Youth Camp Requirements

Please see the 2012 Texas Youth Camp Requirements from Longhorn Council. http://www.longhorncouncil.org/uploads/bd/bd2e852e-01e4-4175-988d-749f07ace7a6.pdf. These requirements affect all long-term camps, including Day Camp, Resident Camp & Boy Scout Summer Camp.

  5. April Day Camp Meeting Notes

A PDF version (icon 2012 Day Camp April Pack Rep Meeting) of the handout that would've gone out at the meeting this week is now available. Please do not hesitate to email the camp director at topsanahdcpd@gmail.com with questions, comments, concerns!

Our May 1st meeting will primarily consist of taking the new one hour YPT course. As of right now the meeting time is 6:15 at Trietsch. Bring fellow camp volunteers with you and invite them to stay after for Roundtable!

  6. April Day Camp Pack Rep Meeting

    Hello Scouters and Volunteers,

Just a friendly reminder that our April meeting is tomorrow at 6:45pm.  We will meet at Trietsch UMC in room 234.  Our meeting will wrap up in time for anyone planning to attend Roundtable at 7:30pm.

As of today, we have camp promotional visits scheduled for Packs 1, 191, 424 and 2008.  We would love to hear from as many of you as we can.

Online registration is not up and running just yet...I had my suspicions the April 1st go-live date might have been an April Fool's joke :).  I will rustle some bushes tomorrow at Roundtable to find out when the site will be ready and will let you know as soon as I find out!

We have officially been trained in the updated YPT and will be able to answer any questions you may have.  We will be scheduling multiple training sessions before camp rolls around.  Programming is firmed up and we have tons of information for you all to filter back to your Packs!

Looking forward to see everyone tomorrow night!

    Yours in Scouting,
    Amy Lyons

  9. Advancement Honor Roll Reminder

arrow of lightSince this is the season for many a Cub Scout to earn their rank badge, I wanted to take the opportunity to remind the unit leaders for all units that they can submit the names and dates of the boys who have earned the highest awards for their program (Arrow of Light, Eagle, Silver Award) here on the District web site.  After a brief check to make sure we aren't getting spam submissions, we display those names attached to your unit.

To submit a name, go to the District Unit Honor Roll link and select one of the links in the section at the top section where the awards are described.

  10. Are you 100% Trained?
Cub Scout Packs that have achieved 100% Trained Leaders will receive a special "banner" to hang on their Pack flag. This is our fourth year to offer this special banner to the Cub Packs in the Topsanah District. Please notify the District Training Chair Patrick Forrest at pforrest55@yahoo.com or Fran Zaccaria at franzaccaria@yahoo.com before March 6th. Banners to be presented at the Topsanah district dinner on March 9th.
